One frame from a wedding last weekend at Herban Feast. I just love Alyssa’s Vera Wang wedding dress. The detail and the folds and pleats were really amazing.
Alyssa and Aaron’s wedding was gorgeous and I can’t wait to show more soon.

I love it when a magazine editor and I arrive at the same place at the same time creatively for something like Seattle coffee photography. In this case, featuring the top three female baristas in the Northwest.
Sarah Dooley, Laila Ghambari and Anna Gutierrez are at the top of their game in the coffee and barista scene in the Pacific Northwest. They are experts and innovators in the coffee world and were really fun and interesting to photograph.
To read more about them check out the April issue of Barista Magazine.

For those wanting the technical details, for this editorial shoot I used a Contax 645 w/80mm f2 lens, and a Contax G2 with 45mm and 21mm lenses. All film was either Portra 160 or Portra 400 overexposed .5-1 stops.
As a Seattle film photographer for weddings and engagements I am honored to be interviewed in Leaves of Light.
It was nice to talk about my philosophy behing how and why I shoot weddings and engagements on film, and to share some tips and tricks on how I get my look with film.

Tom and Jodie. Ace Hotel wedding photography. Portland Oregon. St. Patrick’s. Pedicabs. All film.
This was the kind of wedding that hits all the right notes and was incredibly fun to photograph. Tom and Jodie wanted to capture the essence of Portland with their wedding and they did a great job. From the Ace Hotel, with turntables in each room, to the pedicabs that transported us from St. Patrick’s Church, to the real hipster DJ spinning records at the Bridgeport Brewpub. The spirit of Portland was present in every moment.
Although the weather was cloudy, we managed to avoid the rain and in the process go out and make some great photos. Tom and Jodie are both very creative and between the three of us, we were never at a loss for where to shoot in and around Portland. I particularly enjoyed taking portraits of many of the wedding guests. It’s a great way to remember all the people that made your wedding day special.

Haydee and Aleem are adventurous. And classy.
I was very excited to shoot off the beaten path and discover something new in my hometown of Seattle.
Their Seattle engagement photography session covered the secret and very M.C. Escher-like Freeway Park, and the hip and hidden Rob Roy Bar in Belltown, a center for nightlife in Seattle. We moved from place to place, and I shot a lof of film in both 35mm and medium format. I thought the Rob Roy Bar would be a challenge considering how dark it was, but with my fast lenses it was no problem at all. With Haydee and Aleem in front of my lens, the entire session seemed to go by in a flash as we were having such a great time.
Thank you Haydee and Aleem for being so much fun to photograph and for showing me something new in my own city.

As I drove through the Scottish Highlands, I thought to myself: I am one lucky guy.
Being a wedding photographer in Scotland was amazing. Not only did I shoot wedding photos at the Loch Ness Country House Hotel, I also shot day after photos of Dave and Catherine on the banks of Loch Ness, at Aldourie Castle under beautiful rainbows, and in the forests around St. Augustus where the harsh Scottish weather had made the landscape rugged and raw.
The people around Loch Ness were incredibly friendly and always ready to impart their knowledge of fine Scottish whiskey that you can find in the local distilleries. Nothing beats a good conversation around a coal fire in a castle sipping on a fine whiskey.
I hope these photos portray Dave and Catherine’s deep love for each other and their love for their native home. Although they live in New Zealand now, I think their hearts are in Scotland.
