That’s great, Anna!
Remember, part of the contest is to reply with an idea for the photo shoot. It can be a place, a prop to use, a theme…use your imagination
Take care,
Kirk

Bret and I grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho near to the water. Needless to say, Seattle was an easy transition! A photo session next to any of the bodies of water in our area would be amazing. Every chance we get (weather permitting) we ride our cruiser bikes to Lake Washington and enjoy the view of beautiful Seattle in the distance.
Another thing we love . . .vino! Any of the wineries in our area would provide an amazing backdrop for a photo shoot. There is no better way to end a day (or session) than with a glass of wine.

I’d love to enter, too, but we’re not engaged yet either. : ) someday soon, though.
If i had to pick some cool things for a photoshoot though.. just for fun…
We met in college in Virginia so making a scene set in a cute barn or countryside with some old antique school desks, apples, a little chalk board for messages to each other {& for the camera} would be fun.
OR
Since the minute we met we bonded over sunsets, and our little phrase to each other is that we love chasing sunsets. So… maybe making that goofy and having a big paper sun prop could be pretty cute!
: )

Is that first photo in the Volunteer Park conservatory? I JUST went in there for the first time (I don’t know why I never bothered to go inside before). It’s sooooo neat!

My fiance and I are a funny and teasing couple that love to laugh. I love the idea of having a session in a cozy and intimate space, like a booth in a quaint diner. Since we started dating, we always went out to breakfast on Sunday mornings and its a ritual we continue to do. I imagine a big plate of pancakes between us, laughing with each other, maybe even him reading the paper while I enjoy my cup of hot cocoa. More of an idealized “glimpse” of an intimate, yet every day, moment of our life together as opposed to a “lovey dovey” romantic fantasy (no private trips on canoes and sunsets here!). I love photos that show interaction between people. I want our children to someday look at our photos and see “us”…not just two people posing for a camera to make a pretty picture. I love your work and am thrilled about you offering this contest! Thanks so much for giving us all the opportunity!

My fiancé and I are getting married in spring 2011. We both love the outdoors and some of our most romantic getaways have been backpacking trips. We love the feeling of standing on top of a mountain, alone, where we can see the whole world around us. It makes you feel alive! I want our engagement photos to capture our love of adventuring together.
Somewhere like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shorty_jooce/3397158836/in/set-72157616101176008/ but with me instead of beef jerkey.
Although I know it’s not feasible to take a photographer backpacking, I think a great photoshoot would be at the top of a mountain, or somewhere else relatively remote where you can see into the distance. I’m going to be spending this summer in Seattle for work, and I’ve heard there’s great backpacking in the area. I’m not familiar with Seattle yet, but there must be some nearby mountains where you can drive most of the way to the top & then take a 20-minute hike to a place with a view. My fiancé can carry all the equipment if necessary — he’s great at carrying things up mountains.

My fiancé Carl and I met at a college party in Ellensburg. We soon discovered we shared a love for the outdoors. I did not think it would ever work with him because I was a single mom and he was just graduating from college. Soon we found that we enjoyed spending our time together playing in the outdoors. We fell in love and have been growing as a family ever since. I imagine a photo shoot that lets us express our love for nature and each other and that it would be set by a lake or river. We have a favorite camping spot just east of the mountains and I think that it would be the most wonderful spot to enjoy each other and have our love documented. Spring in the mountains is so wonderful and it would be a dream to have a photo shoot at this favorite spot of ours in the spring. The flowers would just be beginning to bloom, and the sweet sound of animals would be so relaxing. I envision my 12 year old daughter being in some of the photos with us as we are beginning our journey as a family and it would only be right if she were included. I can see myself sitting with my wonderful family years down the road enjoying the wonderful moments that were captured and documented in my dream setting.

My fiance’ and I are getting married this August at the Seattle Aquarium. I would love to have an engagement photo session at the Aquarium and include a photo with the invitations. It would be great to incorporate the engagement photos with the wedding invitations and the ceremony location!

I love the contrast in your photos, absolutely gorgeous. My long term boyfriend (5 years) and I just got engaged yesterday and I’m planning our engagement photos.I have this idea for a vintage photo shoot. I would definitely would like to see a classic VW Bug as a prop, with a vast and dry beach background. Or with an old barn as a back drop, sun setting, with us up against/or in the Bug. What are your thoughts?

I would like to enter this contest. My fiance and I fell in love at UW… we became friends over late night cramming sessions at the Odegaard Undergraduate Library, he asked me out in the parking garage underneath Red Square, and our first date ended at the HUB. Although we have long since graduated,I cannot imagine a more perfect place to take engagement photos than on the beautiful UW campus where it all began.

I love this! What a great contest. I’m very glad Robin had it posted on A Chow Life! This is such a difficult task because I have too many ideas that I could ramble on about forever. I think my initial ideas are things that Seattleites might do often like stroll through Pike Place or saunter down the board walk checkin’ out boats and the water. The Washington Park Arboretum is also an amazing photo location (you probably already know that though). I went to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival once, we took some stunning pictures and it seems like it would be great for engagement photos. A quirky idea I have is of a vintage atmosphere at a petting zoo or with little pet-zoo like creatures like pygmy goats, ponies and baby chicks. Mystical fields with fireflies (potentially photoshopped fireflies) and cantaloupe colored skies are stuck in my brain as well… maybe an old wooden swing hanging from some ancient, massive tree. I really can’t imagine my pictures without my dogs. So maybe a big wheat field and a few tennis balls or a small stream and some more tennis balls where some sweet dog incorporated pictures could be taken. We’re from Idaho, currently living in Moscow as students so coming to Seattle or a nearby location sounds fabulous. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity!

This is a great idea for a contest, I’m glad it was brought to my attention so I could consider it and enter! My girlfriend and I have been talking about wedding details more and more lately, and while she may not know quite when exactly, I plan on asking her to marry me when the weather gets a little nicer this spring. She has been most wonderful to me, especially through my most recent life debacle of cancer treatment for non-aggressive melanoma, and I want to make sure she knows how much I appreciate her via a lifelong commitment to her.
Her dream wedding occurs on Orcas Island, and while I’m not convinced our student budgets will permit such a luxurious ceremony, I love the idea of engagement photos entwining the natural beauty of the San Juans (Whidbey being my favorites) with the raw material of early man-made constructs like the bridge at Deception Pass. The beaches and bluffs in the area, I believe, would make for a ideal setting for a photo opportunity like this. Thanks for the opportunity, love your work!

Clint and I met at the firehouse so naturally I think that would be the perfect place for engagement photos! So many different possibilities… I see our pictures capturing our passions. Perhaps the airport could be an interesting place since we both LOVE to travel and that has been a huge part of our relationship. A picture of us running to catch a plane would be so fitting, I can’t count the number of times we’ve had to do that. Up in the snow at Stevens Pass would be another favorite place of ours. I’d love to have a “traditional” photo of us in regular street clothes out in the middle of a snow field. It would totally incorporate our fun adventurous side and incorporate his history of growing up in Alaska. Thanks so much for doing this Kirk. I love following you on Facebook, keep up the incredible work!!

Are existing clients allowed to enter the contest? (: Well, thought I would try anyways. Ben and I don’t get over to Seattle much anymore, but we used to when we lived in Portland. We love the city! One of our first weekends away was spent at the Willows Lodge in Woodinville. We had the best time – great food, great beer/wine, great memories! So, I think that would be a wonderful spot for us to return to. Regardless of the outcome, I think it’s amazing you guys are running the contest and we are SO incredibly excited to work with you both in September!

hello!! Well I must say first off that we are already married…BUT we never had a real engagement shoot and I have always wanted one….SO I thought I would try to enter anyways…I understand if we don’t qualify. But your pictures are to gorgeous not to give it a go right?
I think my dream shoot would be vintage vintage VINTAGE. I would want to do a vintage inspired shoot with all vintage clothing at an old movie theater. My husband proposed to me at an old movie theater (by playing a movie he made about us on the big screen, it was so amazing) so it would be such a neat way to remember that day….and also at an old malt shop maybe sharing a milkshake?…THAT to me would be a dream! A little flash back in time.

My girl and I are recently engaged. One of her favorite things to do is visit the fair for the carnival games and rides. I always like the crazy colorful temporary little city, especially the crazy mix of lights and people. Thanks for this opportunity. Danny.

When my fiance and I met 5 years ago he was obsessed with old cameras and film. We fell in love at the park in the summer; sitting on a blanket with him taking photos of me with his Rolleicord camera as I read. Those are the moments we will always treasure. Those are the moments we will tell our children about. And to be able to have those moments re-captured in an engagement session five years later… us sitting on a blanket with old cameras and books… would just mean the world. You have no idea.
